How is Walker's Renton Subaru dedicated locally to the Love Promise?
We are dedicated to ensuring that students in the Renton School District have the best educational opportunities possible. As a supporter of Renton Schools Foundation, we contribute funding to promote Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (S.T.E.M.) curriculum, Early Literacy, and Music Programs. In our ongoing efforts to support education initiatives in Renton, we have also partnered with Communities in Schools of Renton to help equip students with much-need school supplies and funding for after-school enrichment programs as well as providing students with mentoring where needed. Walker's Renton Subaru is also proud to participate in Renton River Days, our hometown's 3-day family & community festival. By taking part and sponsoring the event, we get the chance to meet some of the amazing people and organizations in Renton and introduce ourselves as well.

Socks Are Like Gold Around Here - Carsyn K
Did you know that socks are one of the top three most requested items year-round at homeless shelters? According to Generosity Global, “year-round popular items are clean underwear, new socks, and t-shirts.” When people think of donating clothing items, they might think gloves, hats, or pants; making socks high-demand, but low-supply. Subaru says that many people experiencing homelessness walk several miles each day, and spending considerable time on their feet causes socks to wear out quickly. And warm and dry socks are essential to proper foot health. In February we celebrated Subaru Loves to Help®, because we at Walker’s Renton Subaru really do love to help as much as we can. This year, we were able to partner with a local organization- Seattle Union Gospel Mission. Their distribution center is huge and located right in our backyard. We had the opportunity to donate 500 pairs of socks that we hope can help out some people in our community. Through the Subaru Loves to Help initiative, Subaru along with Subaru retailers across the country will have donated over 500,000 pairs of new socks, 50,000 of which are youth-sized socks, along with 100,000 warm blankets to adults and children experiencing homelessness. One of the employees at the UGM Distribution Center said that “socks are like gold.” They aren’t always donated, but they are always needed. We are so grateful to have been able to help, and we are eager to continue supporting this great organization for the future!

Walker's Renton Subaru Loves Dogs with Special Needs! - Peggy M
Subaru and Walker’s Renton Subaru showed its love for pets by donating $100 for every cat and dog adopted from Seattle Humane during October (up to $3,100). More than 380 cats and 105 dogs found loving homes, including several shelter dogs with special needs. One such dog was Lobster. There was no question how Lobster got her name. This sweet young Australian cattle dog puppy came to Seattle Humane from Texas in mid-October with a malformed left front paw. It’s a rare condition known as ectrodactyly or ‘split hand’ that caused her paw to resemble a lobster claw. While some dogs can live with this condition, Lobster’s paw served no functional purpose. In fact, it provided zero support, which meant she was using her carpal joint for support. Imagine walking on your wrists! Seattle Humane’s skilled vet team determined amputating the leg would help Lobster avoid future medical issues, such as chronic pain and arthritis. The surgery was a success, and a few days later she was recovering with her new family. This beautiful tripod dog now goes by Yuna and has a big sister who also has three legs! They write: “Yuna's been doing great! We are so happy to have another 'tripawd' in the family. Her and her new dog sister have been getting along great and she's been doing so well with her cat brother. She's been picking up training impressively fast for her age and everyone who meets her loves how wiggly and happy she is.” Thank you to Subaru and Walker’s Renton Subaru for helping so many pets find loving homes – including pups with special needs like Lobster!
Walker's Subaru Gives Back! - Addie N
On July 27, Walker's Renton Subaru Mazda, in partnership with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society - Pacific Northwest Region, had the unique opportunity of delivering blankets to patients at Valley Medical Center's Infusion & Immunotherapy Center. The Subaru Team also brought handwritten cards for the patients from Subaru employees and customers. Since its inception, Valley Medical has been a thought-leader in their respective field, working with the most vulnerable demographics. Walker's Subaru and the LLS Pacific Northwest Region are grateful to have been able to support the mission of an incredible organization.
Walker's Renton Subaru Loves 'Underdogs' - Peggy M
Subaru and Walker’s Renton Subaru showed its love for pets by donating $100 for every cat and dog adopted from Seattle Humane during October (up to $3,100). Nearly 300 cats and 117 dogs found loving homes, including several shelter dogs with special needs -- dogs that are older, deaf, blind or have chronic conditions. These “Underdogs” are often overlooked in a shelter, but they have so much love to give. 8-year-old Terrier mix Onyx was one such “Underdog.” He came to Seattle Humane in early September after his person had a stroke and could no longer care for him. This sweet friendly lapdog suffered from severe allergies. He’d lost huge patches of fur and his skin was rubbed raw in places due to the constant itching he felt. Onyx spent time in two loving foster homes in the next few weeks, where he was placed on a special diet and received regular medicated baths. His condition improved significantly and he was adopted by a family determined to help him with his chronic allergies. Today they write: “Onyx is happy to be living his best allergy-friendly life, having now had all the available testing done, he gets special food and has regrown nearly all the hair he lost while dealing with his severe allergies. It turns out that he is allergic (or, at a minimum, highly intolerant) to almost everything! So we have worked with our vet and developed an easy, cook at home, food plan to keep him both healthy and happy. The difference is remarkable! He is like a younger dog, both physically and in spirit. Nevertheless, he still loves wearing pajamas and is always excited to put on a new set. Here he is, currently basking in the sun on a beautiful Seattle day. We could not be happier to have had the opportunity to adopt Onyx.” Thank you to Subaru and Walker’s Renton Subaru for helping so many pets find loving homes – including thousands of incredible Underdogs like Onyx!
Walker's Renton Subaru supports students in Renton - Pam T
For over seven years through the annual Share the Love event, Walker’s Renton Subaru continues to impact thousands of students in Renton Schools. These funds are managed through the volunteer team of the Renton Schools Foundation and in partnership with the Renton School District. Student supports and programs supported by these funds are in 25 schools, including free STEM Summer Camp for Middle and High School students, Elementary Summer School camp, musical instruments, theatre productions, teacher grants, a digital literacy platform called myON, and much more. “The partnership with Dale Walker and the Walker’s Renton Subaru team’s donations of over $700,000 is single handily making a HUGE impact," said Pam Teal, Chairperson of the RSF team. “Dale’s support during the COVID-19 pandemic has allowed us to support students learning at home and now back in school buildings in new and unique ways." The foundation supported 1,300 students who had connectivity issues, providing funds for hotspots. This year, as students returned to their classrooms, dynamic new supports include a music digital platform called “Smart Music” which benefits every music student in Middle and High School, and providing every 5th grader their own recorder instrument. In addition to hands-on support, the Renton Schools Foundation is supporting a new mental health curriculum called Digital Second Step, which can be used by teachers and counselors. A favorite activity for Walker's Renton Subaru and the Renton Schools Foundation is gathering to meet students that participate in a foundation-supported program. Dale always engages the students in their learning, asking about their future and more. This year, Ellen and Lydia, seniors from Hazen High School, were equally engaging. They shared with Dale that they met in middle school robotics and became instant friends. In conversation they shared that being on the robotics team for the past four years has shaped their education and their interest in Computer Science and Business. Congratulations to Ellen and Lydia you are on a billboard
Walker's Renton Subaru Donates Pet Supplies - Cody N
On November 4th, Walker's Renton Subaru had the opportunity to donate shelter supply kits, toys and pet food to Seattle Humane. After a tour of the facilities, we had a chance to play with playful pup Kava and cute cats Jiggs and Jelly. At Walker's Renton Subaru, we love to help our community! We hope that this small donation of doggie bags, tennis balls, chew toys and more will make an impact in the lives of pets renting a room at Seattle Humane. Walker’s Renton Subaru looks forward to working with Seattle Humane again soon!
Walker's Renton Provides Comfort to Patients - Katie J
On July 29, Walker’s Renton Subaru made a big difference in the lives of blood cancer patients. Each year since 2016, they partner with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to delivery warm, top-of-the-line, blankets and arts and crafts kits to patients at Valley Medical Center. These gifts are very helpful to patients who are undergoing cancer treatment because they provide comfort during a very uncomfortable process. We were able to surprise two patients who were in treatment at the time we arrived and they were very thankful to Walker’s Renton Subaru for providing this for them. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society exists to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma and help improve the quality of life of patients like Mr. Eng pictured here. Thank you to Walker’s Renton Subaru for choosing to care for patients in the Renton community fighting blood cancers and for helping fund life-saving cancer research and support programs.
